The 25 broken promises of the Soldiers of Destiny.

Promise (1). Hospital beds, Increase the number of hospital beds to 650 by 2002.

Broken.

Promise (2).Made in 2002. Accident & Emergency; To improve services .

Promise(3) Hospital waiting lists. End waiting lists by 2004…

Promise (4)Solve Airport Terminal by end of 2003.

Broken. Only 50 of the 800 schools listed for renovation completed.

Promise (11) Increase An Garda Siochana numbers by 2000.

Promise (12) Action on Garda discipline reform recommendations of the Morris Tribunal.

Promise (13) Expand social housing programmes to meet the 15,000 per annum requirement. Broken.

Less than half each years needs, have been completed during the past 3 years.

Promise (14)Assist the voluntary housing sector to meet the 4000 units per annum target.

Broken.Only a fraction of this number completes yearly.

Promise (15) Reduce "consistent poverty" to below 2 percent.

Broken.An E.U.Survey on Income and Living Conditions in Ireland reveal that in 2003 almost 10% of the population were living in consistent poverty,and no radical measures have been taken to reduce the level at all.!

Promise(16) Commitment to new benchmark level of 150 Euros per week for social welfare payments.

Promise (17) Increase the basic old age pension to 200 Euros weekly by 2007.

Broken.(There is no prospect of an increase of 34 Euros, in each of the next two budgets)

Promise (18) Increase overseas development aid to 0.7 percent of G.N.P.by 2007.

Broken.No plans to do so.

Promise (19) " Fianna Fail will initiate a wide ranging review of the Ethics in Public Office measures and improve them." This promise was a key commitment to deflect criticisms of Fianna Fail arising from the revelations of the Flood and Moriarty Tribunals.

BROKEN . No wide ranging review has ever taken place.!(or ever will)

Promise (20) To introduce a Proceeds of Corruption Act,so that not only ordinary decent criminals would be deprived of their ill gotten gains ,but the wealthy builders and property speculators associated with Ray Burke etc would also suffer the same fate.

BROKEN Useless,watered down amendments have been added to the Proceeds of Crime Bill(1999). The corrupt ,wealthy "genteel" businessmen and land speculators will retain their corrupt wealth.

Promise(21) To eliminate any potential financial on decision making and thereby prevent corruption in politics.

Broken.On the contrary Fianna Fail have arrogantly introduced a new "Forum of opportunity" inviting businessmen to pay 1500 Euros to party funds,and "network" within the Ministers "cocktail circuit", thereby "contributing to policy making".

Is paying money to get access to Fianna Fail ministers "corruption" or no.? I suppose it depends on whether they are amenable to your proposition or not...

Promise (22) To allow people access to publicly held information under the freedom of information act,thereby recognizing the importance of ensuring "transparent and accountable public administration"

Broken, arrogantly and shamelessly.

The Freedom of Information Act has been amended to restrict access to state documents and charges introduced to inhibit the public further, from accessing these documents.

Promise (22) All Ireland free travel scheme for pensioners.

Broken "under review as part of North/South dialogue"

Promise (23) "To ensure that discharges of untreated sewage will cease by 2003."

Broken.Effluent from Tramore,North Dublin and Rathdown(South Dublin)still flows into the sea according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Promise(24) "To ensure that over the five years from mid-2002, 80 percent of all taxpayers pay tax only at the standard rate."

Broken.In 2005 only 32 percent of earners pay the standard rate. For the rest, the 42 percent Rate has become the "Standard rate"
